You’re here because you’re curious about: editing.

A lot of my editing work is unseen in the final product—which is how it should be! My job as an editor is to help you write your story in your voice.

I have experience editing news and opinion writing, books, creative non-fiction, admissions applications, marketing materials, legal documents and business communications.

I can help you with:

Developmental Editing: What are you writing about? What ideas do you want to—or need to—include? What should you not include? If these are the questions you’re wrestling with, this form of editing is for you.

Line and Copy Editing: How are you saying what you’re saying? Does the language flow naturally? Does it sound good? Are there logical inconsistencies, gaps, over-explanations, or other issues? If this is what you’re tackling in your writing, this form of editing is for you.

Proofreading: Is literally every single character that you have typed in the right place? Are all all of your verb tenses accurate? Did you duplicate a word? Did you notice that I duplicated the word “all” in the second sentence? If not, this form of editing is for you. (But even if you did, this type of final proof is highly beneficial.)

I previously worked as a legal proofreader, where I earned an overall 97.3% graded accuracy rate in proofreading: 99% accuracy for Word documents, 98% accuracy for Excel documents, and 95% accuracy for PowerPoint documents.

Application Editing and Coaching: If you’re applying to a graduate school and want help with boiling down your life into an 800-word personal statement, this form of editing is for you. In five-ish weeks, I will help you:

  • develop a narrative through-line for your application
  • build your story from the ground up, or rework one you already have
  • balance information between personal statements and activity sections
  • more generally, lern houw 2 rite gud

Note that there is no guarantee of admission just because you work with me. I am not an admissions expert, and I don’t pretend to be one. What I am is a storyteller. I will help you tell yours in the best way you can.
