You’re here because you’re curious about: writing.

I am first and foremost a writer. I wrote my first book when I was 8. Here’s what I’ve been working on since then.

Journalism: This comprises the bulk of my writing work. You’ll find me saying this any time I talk about anything news-related: journalism is a public service. I approach it as such. My work focuses on stories that impact everyday people and stories that hold powerful institutions accountable to those everyday people. What can I say? I like sticking it to The Man.

My coolest online-available work can be found at this button:

I’ve written for independent tech outlet 404 Media, tech magazine WIRED, and VICE News’s tech desk, Motherboard. I’m by no means good at tech. When I joined VICE in 2022, I did not know what an HDMI cable was. But I think that’s what makes me good at writing about tech. I am supremely diligent when I write, because I have to report from scratch—there’s no assumptions or prior knowledge for me to lean on. That makes me sharper and more accurate.

I’m also a local news junkie. I regularly write for The Boston Guardian, a hyper-local print newspaper (nope! no website! just online archives! it’s real old-school!) in Boston, Massachusetts. I additionally write the monthly politics column at local non-profit news organization Matter News, in Columbus, Ohio. I love local reporting because it goes back to the basics. I take notes by hand; I go to city council meetings in-person; I cold-call people on the actual phone, and they pick up. Local reporting is often undervalued by media conglomerates, but if you take journalism as a public service, then this is the most important beat of all: how real things in your local community are affecting you.

Creative: I’m a short story enthusiast. Right now, I have about six ideas bouncing around for short stories (and potentially some longer-form works) I plan to write this year. I love writing as an art. Good writing is like music; it must be melodically and rhythmically interesting. I strive for all of my writing to sound good when it’s read out loud.

Here is the first short story I ever submitted to a competition. (Which I lost—because I went off-theme, I think. I still thought it was pretty good, and so has everyone who has read it since then.)

Congratulations, you’ve found an easter egg! This is the first written piece I ever published.
